Remember, there is a generation that don't see nothing wrong here.
Boost if you get it ;)
@DavitMasia which generation is that supposed to be? the pre-floppy one that doesn't know physical memory gets erased by magnets? I believe they're all dead now.
@anarchiv @DavitMasia Yeah, sonny, I don’t see what all the fuss is about. That plastic punch card will be just fine.
@Nonetrix @DavitMasia I read that as system restore dick…
I like to hold mine and do funny thing with hand at 3am sometimes
@DavitMasia@mastodon.social yeah, nothing wrong here, it's not demagnetizing that much with a constant field despite what the package says.
Now laying them on a transformer, rubbing it on a magnet or laying them out in the baking hot sun to dry, F.
Now here's something that newer gen hipsters, like me, def. don't get.
jokes aside, I used to take floppies apart and replace the disk with a mini-cdrw. It made for a nice casing.
ich booste gar nichts nur weil du das willst boomer
@anarchiv @DavitMasia I think it's the zoomers, the oldest of which are 20 this year.
why though, it's not like this is exclusive to floppies
anyway, sorry for ruining a perfectly okay post...
@BalooUriza@social.tulsa.ok.us @DavitMasia@mastodon.social the clue is that you didn't degauss your screwdriver and got a fire mixtape as a test loaded
I physically flinched when I saw that. Before I read the label too.
@DavitMasia now I have a flash drive with pretty same contents 😁
won't the magnet damage the floppy disk?
@anarchiv @DavitMasia I am a millennial and I still have some games for the amiga. Family still has 5 1/2 for the commandore.
@DavitMasia lol that text is too small for that save icon
@DavitMasia this is the nerd equivalent of a condom pinned to the wall with a "be safe" note
@DavitMasia Clearly that is just a piece of plastic taped to the diskette, and the disk is also held to the refrigerator with double sided tape for security.
Nothing to see here, move along.
@DavitMasia No. I will not boost that. I have seen people do that unironically.
@DavitMasia I got it (I'm 16), but I won't boost it cause I dont think its funny.
@wzqtparor @DavitMasia spiro agnew.. It was always the question with spiro Agnew...
@DavitMasia If you wanted to stick a floppy drive to something, apply it to a non-magnetic surface and nothing bad will happen.
@DavitMasia My eyes are old and need new glasses or optician. But all I can read is "System lestore disk". So what's wrong with a 40 year old typo?
@DavitMasia How can the piss poor fridge magnet pin the disk to the fridge? In the middle of this disk is a (magnetical) steel piece, which shields magnetic fields...
@DavitMasia 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 it stick to the wall with a magnet
@DavitMasia In the early days, backup copies were made using Xerox machines. No kidding! Another thing I've seen: those 5.25" punched and filed. To a backup "folder" of course…
@DavitMasia what's supposed to be wrong with this? it's not as if the magnet is over the data tracks, this disk will probably be just fine
@DavitMasia Well, I can see something wrong here: there is no image description. Does that count? 😇
@DavitMasia Same generation thinks that Beethoven is a dog and Pitbull a musician.
Boomers pre-date this storage format and even they don't get it half the time.
it took me a huge while to understand that this was supposed to be a refrigerator and that a magnet was used to pin it there
that was literally how I've interpreted the picture first cause I did not even see that it was a refrigerator and thought it was just a wall
@DavitMasia Quand on pense que c'était déjà un gros progrès, ces disquettes-là #AirPensif
@DavitMasia I won't because there is not alt text for the image but yeah. 🙂
@DavitMasia lol @ remeber there's a generation post and pic.
@DavitMasia I'm probably part of that generation, but I'm guessing it's the magnet?
